Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks has a new job in the new year, as he’ll take over as the next defensive coordinator at Missouri.

Wilks, who coached the Cardinals to a 3-13 season in 2018, last worked as the Cleveland Browns’ defensive coordinator under then-head coach Freddie Kitchens in 2019.

Prior to arriving in the Valley, Wilks served in a variety of roles across the college and NFL ranks, including spending one season as the head coach at Savannah State in 1999.

Wilks last coached in the college ranks in 2004, when he served as the defensive backs coach at Notre Dame. He worked in a variety of defensive assistant roles with the Chicago Bears, San Diego Chargers and Carolina Panthers prior to becoming the head coach of the Cardinals.

Prior to entering the coaching realm, Wilks played collegiately at Appalachian State and with the now-defunct Charlotte Rage of the Arena Football League.

Wilks replaces outgoing Missouri defensive coordinator Ryan Walters, who left during the offseason to become the defensive coordinator at Illinois.
