Inside the Box for
October 7, 2011: Brewers 3, Diamondbacks 2
The Good:
Arizona rallied once again in the ninth inning as Willie Bloomquist’s safety squeeze bunt brought in the tying run to force extra innings.
Justin Upton broke out of his slump in the postseason hitting a home run to put Arizona ahead in the third inning.
Rookie Paul Goldschmidt continued his solid postseason getting two hits.
Outfielder Chris Young made a spectacular catch preventing Milwaukee runs from scoring in the sixth inning.
The Bad:
J.J. Putz had been fantastic all season, but he gave up the winning run on a Nyjer Morgan single in the 10th inning.
Ian Kennedy pitched better in his second postseason start, but he couldn’t hold the lead and gave up up a huge two out hit to Yuniesky Betancourt that put Milwaukee ahead.
Arizona had a chance to tie the game in the eighth inning getting a runner to third with only one out, but Paul Goldschmidt struck out and Ryan Roberts grounded out with the bases loaded to end the D-backs threat.
