Former Arizona Cardinals assistant special teams coach Derius Swinton II has a new gig in the NFL.
Swinton, who served on Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s staff in varying roles from 2019-2020, is joining the Los Angeles Chargers’ staff as the team’s special teams coach.
Swinton was hired by Kingsbury as an NFL diversity coaching fellow in 2019 before being promoted to a full-time role in 2020.
Swinton previously had assistant coaching jobs with the St. Louis Rams, Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2019.
The move, which was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL.com on Saturday, is the first addition to new Chargers head coach Brandon Staley’s staff.
The 35-year-old began his coaching career as a defensive graduate assistant at Tennessee in 2007, before moving to the NFL in 2009.
