Diamondbacks lose Dipoto to the Angels

Jerry Dipoto did an excellent job as the Diamondbacks’
interim GM in 2010, orchestrating deals that landed the team
Daniel Hudson and Tyler Skaggs, among others.

Once Kevin Towers was hired it was only a matter of time
before Dipoto would leave the team to run a different
organization, and it appears that time has come.

Multiple
reports
say Dipoto will take a job with the Los Angeles
Angels, and will be introduced at a news conference
Saturday.

For the Diamondbacks it is a substantial loss, as Dipoto
proved to be adept at making deals and talent evaluation.
His role in building the 2011 NL West Champions cannot be
understated, as many of the key players were acquired on his
watch.

However, the Diamondbacks knew this was going to happen
sooner or later and should be fine with Towers and the staff
he’s assembled.
