D-backs come to terms with free agent McDonald

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Wednesday that they have agreed
to terms with infielder John McDonald on a two-year contract.

The 37-year old McDonald was acquired in a trade with Toronto on August
23rd, and played 19 regular season games in an Arizona uniform. The
veteran hit .169 with 2 runs batted in.

McDonald also made his postseason debut after 884 regular season games as
the a reserve in games three and four of the National League Divisional Series
against the Milwaukee Brewers.

McDonald made his major league debut in 1999 with the Cleveland Indians,
and has also played with Detroit and Toronto over his 13-year career.

Among active shortstops since 1999 (min. 500 games), McDonald’s 56 errors
are second-fewest to the Rockies’ Troy Tulowitzki’s 46 errors while his 3.14
assists per 9.0 innings ratio is fourth-best behind the Braves’ Jack Wilson
(3.38), Tulowitzki (3.25) and Rafael Furcal (3.16), his 4.88 total chances per
9.0 innings ratio is tied with the Dodgers’ Juan Uribe for fourth-best behind
Tulowitzki (5.09), Wilson (5.00) and Furcal (4.94) and his .852 zone rating* is
fifth-best behind the Indians’ Adam Everett (.875), the Yankees’ Alex
Rodriguez (.873), the White Sox’s Omar Vizquel (.861) and the Orioles’ Cesar
Izturis (.853).
