D-backs acquire Cahill, Breslow from Athletics

Arizona Sports 620’s John Gambadoro broke the story Friday
morning, and late Friday afternoon, it became official.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired right-handed
pitcher Trevor Cahill, lefty reliever Craig Breslow and
cash considerations
from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for young right-
handed prospect Jarrod Parker, outfielder Collin Cowgill and right-handed reliever Ryan Cook.

Cahill is a 23-year old right hander, who already has won
40 big league games. He went 12-14 last season with a
4.16 ERA in 34 starts for Oakland.

The former 2nd round pick of the Athletics (66th overall)
was an All-Star in the 2010 season, when he won 18 games
and had an ERA of 2.97.

Breslow had been a workhorse in the Oakland, averaging 73
appearances over the last three year. He’s 31-years-old
and has 295 appearances out of the bullpen for five
different teams in six big league seasons.

Parker, a former first round pick (9th overall) out of
Fort Wayne, Indiana, made his major league debut for the
Diamondbacks in 2011. On September 27th, he pitched 5.2
shutout innings against the Dodgers in a 7-6 win. Parker
also pitched 1/3 of an inning out of the bullpen in Game 4
of the NLDS against the Milwaukee Brewers. He was ranked
by Baseball America as the Diamondbacks’
third-best prospect heading into the 2012 season.
