D-backs add to bullpen depth with Saito

According to numerous reports on Monday, the Arizona
Diamondbacks have signed veteran right-handed reliever
Takashi Saito to a one-year contract.
Saito spent 2011 with the Milwaukee Brewers, and pitched in
30 games, posting a 4-2 record with an ERA of 2.03.
The 41-year-old has pitched six seasons in the big leagues
after a distinguished career in Japan with Yokohama where he
posted an 80-79 record with a 3.89 ERA.
Saito broke into the majors in 2006 with the Los Angeles
Dodgers, and was used primarily as a closer, notching 81
saves in his three seasons there.
From there, Saito went on to Boston in 2009 and Atlanta in
2010, where he was a setup man. His career ERA in the
majors is a sterling 2.18 in 322 relief appearances. He
adds depth to a much-improved Diamondbacks’ bullpen that
just last week added veteran left-hander Craig Breslow.
