Report: D-backs non-tender Saunders, Owings

Dec 13, 2011, 3:45 AM | Updated: 3:57 am

PHOENIX – Arizona Diamondback pitchers Joe Saunders and Micah Owings may have thrown their last pitches for the organization.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, the team non-tendered both pitchers Monday making them free agents.

It is believed that the organization will still try to re-sign both, but they will now be competing with the rest of the MLB teams for their services.

The team was probably worried about going to arbitration where the players could have been awarded a salary that the team didn’t want to pay.

Saunders was 12-13 last season with a 3.69 ERA in 33 starts.

Owings was 8-0 with a 3.57 ERA pitching out of the bullpen with four spot starts.
