After a successful 14-year MLB career with the Boston Red Sox, Arizona State alum Dustin Pedroia is hanging up his cleats.

The shortstop announced his retirement from the game on Monday.

A four-time All-Star who spent all 17 of his professional seasons with the Red Sox organization, Pedroia played in two World Series and collected a third ring in 2018, when he was injured. In his career, he batted .299 with 140 homers and 725 RBIs.

Pedroia, 37, is the only player ever to earn Rookie of the Year, Gold Glove and MVP awards along with a World Series championship in his first two full seasons. Only nine other players have accomplished those feats in their entire career.

Before making a name at the MLB level, Pedroia was putting on a show in Tempe.

Playing three seasons at ASU (2002-04), Pedroia finished with a career batting average of .384 (298-for-777), tying for seventh in the Sun Devils’ record books.

The shortstop started all 185 games of his college career, becoming a three-time First-Team All-Pac-10 selection in the process.

He was named Pac-10 Co-player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2003.

For his efforts, the Boston Red Sox selected the Woodland, Calif., native with the 65th overall pick in the 2004 MLB Draft.
