The Arizona Board of Regents will vote Feb. 11 on contracts of several high-profile faces of the state universities’ athletics departments.
Among items on ABOR’s to-do list are an extension for Arizona State Sun Devils vice president of university athletics Ray Anderson and a contract for Arizona Wildcats head football coach Jedd Fisch.
Anderson’s extension comes after he last week committed to remaining at ASU, saying he had no interest in pursuing the Pac-12 commissioner vacancy to replace the outgoing Larry Scott.
With his current contract set to expire in September 2022, Anderson’s extension of five years raises his annual salary from $800,000 to $950,000 and comes with a $500,000 signing bonus.
The deal goes through Feb. 11, 2026.
ABOR’s finance, capital and resources committee reviewed the request on Jan. 28 and recommended it for approval by the full board of regents.
Fisch’s new deal that runs through 2025 can also become official next Thursday.
It begins at a base annual amount of $1.8 million for the first two years. It increases to $2 million in the third year and $2.2 million for the fourth before inching up to $2.3 million for his fifth and final year.
The deal includes a yearly $100,000 retention incentive each of the first four years that will be paid out after the 2024 season if Fisch remains Arizona’s head coach.
Bonuses on his deal include $100,000 for a Pac-12 South title, $200,000 for the conference championship and tiered bonuses for grades and the Wildcats appearing on the final Associated Press ranking of a season.
Also on the ABOR list of athletic department contract approvals for next Thursday are extensions for ASU baseball coach Tracy Smith and women’s basketball coach Charli Turner Thorne.
Smith’s contract ends this June but upon approval will extend two years, through June 2023.
Turner Thorne’s contract that ends in 2022 is requested by the school to be extended through June 2024.
