The Arizona Diamondbacks lost a weather-filled split squad game to the Oakland Athletics on Sunday by a final score of 11-2.

Trevor Cahill got the start for the D-backs against his former team, the Athletics. He looked decent, despite falling behind to most of the batters he faced.

Kurt Suzuki hit a two-run HR off of Cahill in the second. Cahill said after the game that Suzuki had seen more pitches from him than anyone else in Oakland and that he tried to out think Suzuki, but failed.

“[My control] wasn’t very good,” said Cahill. “I think it was better last time. That time my control was wild in the zone, this time it was wild outside the zone. I made some good pitches, but I think..I just need to concentrate on making my zone smaller and making strikes.”

Cahill got the loss, his line was 3 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO.

After the end of the third inning, the skies opened up and it started heavily raining and hailing — yes, you read that right — it was hailing at the ballpark. The tarp came out and there was a 36-minute delay.

“[The weather] was fine until I went out there and it started hailing,” said Cahill. “But I could have pitched in that. It would’ve been fun.”

After the delay ended, J.J. Putz took the mound for the D-backs. His line was 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 HR, 1BB.
