D-backs’ Collmenter just wants to pitch — a lot

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the number three starter
in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ rotation, Josh Collmenter.

“I wanted to be a part and contribute,” Collmenter told
Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf about being one of the
five starters. “I really liked what we started last year,
and just being with those guys in the rotation, having
another year coming back, adding Cahill in, I think we can
just keep rolling that over like we did last year.”

That’s what the D-backs and their fans are hoping for, as
the rotation will likely be the determining factor on
whether or not Arizona repeats as NL West champions.

Collmenter figured to play a role in it all, though some
felt he’d wind up in the bullpen. That didn’t happen — at
least not yet — so he’s still a starter.

Which is why, perhaps, it should not surprise anyone that
Collmenter did not really change his offseason approach,
as he enters his second season in the majors.

“I tried to keep it as simple and as straightforward as it
had been every Spring Training,” the right-hander said. “I
didn’t want to get too far away from what I do an what
I’ve had success with.”

At the same time, Collmenter said his spring has been more
relaxing than before, since he’s an established major
leaguer and knows the players and coaches in the
clubhouse.

So, in a word, he’s experienced.
