Kirk Gibson focused on defining D-backs roles

Apr 10, 2012, 7:24 PM | Updated: 9:01 pm

Kirk Gibson has a tendency to press all the right buttons.

He batted Chris Young second Friday and was rewarded with
a two-run home run.

He then put Aaron Hill in the two-hole Saturday, and was
rewarded with a pair of home runs.

Then, on Sunday, Gibson gave veteran Lyle Overbay the
start at first, only to see the guy get three hits —
including a home run — in the come-from-behind victory.

In other words, it appears the guy knows what he’s doing.

“Things worked out this weekend, it’s a long season,”
Gibson told Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo Tuesday.
“They’re not always going to work out.”

But they did this time — and much of last year, too —
giving the D-backs an opening weekend sweep and a good
start to the season.

But, besides simply winning games, Gibson said his moves
are designed to set this roster going forward.
