D-backs Towers headed to DR to work out Guerrero

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers
announced during Sunday’s broadcast that he is headed to
the Dominican Republic to work out outfielder Vladimir
Guerrero.

Recognized undoubtedly for his hitting skills, Guerrero
spent 2011 with the Baltimore Orioles, and hit .290 with
13 home runs and 63 RBIs. Guerrero, however, spent limited
time in the outfield and was used predominantly as a
designated hitter throughout the season.

The 37-year-old veteran would add to an outfield that is
missing one of its key components in Chris Young, who is
on the bench with a slightly torn ligament in his right
shoulder.

Once Young were to return to the lineup, Guerrero would
most likely only be used as a pinch hitter or possibly a
designated hitter during interleague play. The
Diamondbacks start their 15-game interleague slate May 17
in Kansas City.

Guerrero’s best season came in 2004 with the Anaheim
Angels. He hit .337 with 39 home runs and 126 RBI’s,
taking home the AL MVP award.
