The Diamondbacks called up pitcher Patrick Corbin from
Double-A Monday so he could start against the Miami
Marlins.
In turn, the team optioned pitcher Joe Martinez to Triple-
A and transferred infielder Geoff Blum from the 15-day DL
to the 60-day DL.
The 22-year-old Corbin will be making his big league debut
Monday, following a stellar career in the minors after
being acquired from the L.A. Angels in 2010.
Corbin nearly made the Opening Day roster out of spring
training, where he impressed manager Kirk Gibson by
tossing 21 innings and allowing just 7 earned runs. The
skipper decided to stick with a struggling Josh Collmenter
to open the season, and all Corbin did in Double-A was go
2-0 with a 1.67 ERA in 27 innings of work. He struck out
25 while walking 8.
Martinez, who was recalled from Reno on April 24, appeared
in one game for the D-backs, allowing one run on two hits
against the Phillies on April 25.
The veteran Blum, who has struggled with injuries since
joining the Diamondbacks prior to the 2011 season, was
just 1-for-11 in eight games this season before straining
his left oblique.
