Kevin Towers knew Junior Seau.
As a member of the San Diego Padres organization for the
better part of 16 years, Towers was not only familiar with
the former NFL linebackers work on the field, but with the
man off it.
And, as Towers told Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf
Wednesday, Seau’s death came as a complete shock.
“I wouldn’t say we were great friends, but I know him,
I’ve been out to eat with him, we’ve got a lot of mutual
friends that are very close to him,” Towers said.
“When I think of San Diego I think of really Tony Gwynn,
Trevor Hoffman and Junior Seau — in no particular order,”
he added. “They’re icons within the community.”
Towers talked about all that Seau had done for San Diego’s
youth when trying to explain the impact the future NFL
Hall of Famer had off the field.
