D-backs still have no timetable for Stephen Drew

Stephen Drew took one more step towards his return.
The Diamondbacks shortstop played five innings Tuesday of
an extended spring training game against the Colorado
Rockies at Salt River Fields. It’s the most innings he’s
played thus far as he works his way back from a fractured
right ankle last July.
Drew—batting second each inning, went 2-for-5 with an
RBI triple and run scored.
In the field, only one ball was hit his direction. The
sharp grounder took a bad hop, bouncing away from Drew’s
outstretched glove.
“He’ll play—not tomorrow but he’ll play on Thursday
again and then on Saturday again,” manager Kirk Gibson
said during his weekly appearance with Burns and Gambo.
Beyond that, however, Gibson does not have a definitive
timetable for Drew.
“We’ve never really been able to do that,” said Gibson.
“As much as we need him right now and want him right now,
we still can’t accelerate the process any quicker than
physically his surgically repaired ankle will allow him to
do.
“He looks good,” Gibson continued. “He’s getting closer
but we can’t say, ‘Oh, it will be a week or two weeks or
three weeks’. We’ll know when it happens.
