ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

D-backs manager Gibson won’t overreact to mistakes

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been far from perfect this
season.

At just 14-16 and losers of three straight, the team has
had issues at the plate, in the field and, most
surprisingly and likely most frustratingly, on the
basepaths.

Gerardo Parra fell victim to a pickoff move in a loss to
the Mets in New York.

“I don’t get upset; I think the guys all go out…what
happens is you get into streaks where you’re not scoring,
guys maybe trying to be a little overly aggressive, try an
do too much,” the skipper told Arizona Sports 620’s Burns
and Gambo. “They’re only trying to help their team.

“It’s just not a perfect science.”

Gibson said the mistakes are frustrating and the team
talks about it, but sometimes worrying about it all too
much can be counter-productive.

“We stand behind everybody who makes a mistake, we don’t
get on them about it,” Gibson added. “We try and talk our
way through it, we try and learn from things that don’t go
our way.”

Unfortunately for the D-backs, more hasn’t gone their way
this year than has, which for a team that entered the year
with big expectations could lead to further struggles.
