Arizona Diamondbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall said Sunday that Chase Field will start the regular season at 25% capacity.

Hall told Fox Sports Arizona during Sunday’s broadcast of the Cubs and Diamondbacks game that he and owner Ken Kendrick worked with both the city of Phoenix and the Governor’s Office on a plan for fans to return to the ballpark.

“The commissioner [Rob Manfred] has built a relationship with Gov. Ducey, as has Ken and myself,” Hall said. “At some point, Gov. Ducey had asked us to submit our plan to Cara Christ and AZDHS [Arizona Department of Health Services].”

The approved 25% capacity means around 12,000 fans will be allowed to attend games.

Restrictions such as appropriate distancing will continue to be enforced at Chase Field, Hall added.

He remains optimistic that as Arizona continues to vaccinate more people and metrics trend downward, more fans could potentially be allowed in as the season moves forward.

“I think a lot of positive signs are pointing in the right direction for us to continue to loosen up some of these restrictions and get more people at the ballpark because I know people are really craving it,” Hall said.
