Trailer released for Chris Paul-led doc, ‘The Day Sports Stood Still’

Mar 11, 2021, 11:01 AM

HBO on Thursday released a teaser trailer for “The Day Sports Stood Still,” a documentary set to run just more than a year after the coronavirus pandemic struck the sports world.

Leading the first-person narrative of March 11, 2020, is Chris Paul, who is also an executive producer for the project.

The Phoenix Suns guard was with the Oklahoma City Thunder last March 11 and tells the story of the NBA’s first canceled game due to the coronavirus.

The Thunder were set to play the Utah Jazz before a positive coronavirus test to Utah’s Rudy Gobert set off an unprecedented stoppage in the sports world.

Other athletes interviewed for the film include: the NBA’s Donovan Mitchell, Danilo Gallinari, Karl-Anthony Towns, team owner Mark Cuban, commissioner Adam Silver and players association executive director Michele Roberts; MLB’s Mookie Betts; the NHL’s Ryan Reaves; NFL’s Laurent Duvernay-Tardif; Natasha Cloud of the WNBA; LPGA’s Michelle Wie West; and Dutch soccer player Marten de Roon.

Also involved in the creation of “The Day Sports Stood Still” is director Antoine Fuqua and executive producers Ron Howard, Sara Bernstein and Marc Gilbar.
