The Arizona State men’s basketball team on Monday saw its first player leave the program since its season ended in a Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinal loss to Oregon.

ASU junior forward Taeshon Cherry has entered the transfer portal, The Athletic’s Doug Haller confirmed.

Cherry had not been a part of the Sun Devils for a good portion of the season, leaving for personal reasons. He missed 18 of the team’s 25 contests.

“He’s going to take a little bit of time due to personal reasons,” head coach Bobby Hurley said back on Jan. 14. “It’s been a tough year on everybody as we know, so Tae is going to take a small step back right now.”

On Feb. 12, Hurley said the junior was on his way back to rejoining the team at some point this season, but Cherry never stepped back on the court for ASU.

He finished the season averaging 3.9 points and 2.3 assists in 16 minutes over the course of seven games. Cherry started a total of three games for the Sun Devils.

In 62 games (17 starts) for ASU, Cherry averaged 5.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in 17.8 minutes per contest. He shot 37.3% from the field and 30.4% from long range.
