D-backs select ASU pitcher Jake Barrett

The Arizona Diamondbacks tabbed ASU pitcher Jake Barrett
with their third round pick, 120th overall.

Barrett, who just completed his junior season in Tempe, was
the Sun Devils’ closer, collecting 11 saves to go along with
a 1.62 ERA. He struck out 36 in 33.1 innings, and allowed
just six earned runs.

The 20-year-old Barrett did start for ASU his sophomore
year, winning seven games while carrying an ERA of 4.14. The
move to the bullpen seemed to suit him just fine.

Barrett, a graduate of Desert Ridge High School in Mesa, was
drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round of the
2009 draft.
