Diamondbacks GM wants team’s attitude to remain positive

Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers wants his team to really come
together as one.

The team, still struggling to get back to .500 and,
hopefully, beyond, is coming off one of its best wins of
the season. Unfortunately, the discussion following
Tuesday night’s win was about how Justin Upton reacted to
being benched and Stephen Drew being called out by the D-
backs owner Ken Kendrick.

“We’re at kind of a defining moment here in the season
where as bad as we’ve played and as inconsistent as we’ve
been, we’re going to be challenged,” Towers told Arizona
Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf Wednesday. “I think [manager
Kirk Gibson] and I, kind of — not that we expected it in
spring training — but we want to be prepared if it came
to this, and this is when your good clubs become a band of
brothers.”

For the D-backs to become a good team they will have to
resist the temptation to point fingers and blame one
another for struggling, and instead work through all of
this and find a way to start winning.

“That goes for the front office, it goes for the ownership
group, it goes, actually, for the fans,” he said.
“Everybody included in Diamondback baseball, and we need
to get back to that once again.”
