D-backs scout: Stryker Trahan staying at catcher

Jun 8, 2012, 1:51 AM | Updated: 2:45 pm

Drafted 26th overall in the first round of the MLB
draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, catcher
Stryker Trahan is a strong bat with enough talent at his
position that the D-backs feel comfortable leaving him
there for now.

Diamondbacks scouting director Ray Montgomery told Arizona
Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf on Thursday that despite his
strong hitting, it would be unrealistic to expect Stryker
in the big leagues right away.

“The thought of him coming out and handling the type of
arms we have would be unfair to anyone at his age, but he
certainly has the make-up to do it and the ability to stay
behind the plate,” Montgomery said.

The Acadiana High School graduate has already committed to
Mississippi, but the Diamondbacks feel confident that he
is a signable pick.
