D-backs make 6 roster moves, option RHP Riley Smith to Triple-A Reno

The Arizona Diamondbacks have cut their spring training roster down to 40 players after making six roster moves on Saturday morning.
Most notable of the six is RHP Riley Smith who was optioned to Triple-A Reno.
Smith pitched in six games for the D-backs last season posting a 2-0 record with a 1.47 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 18 strikeouts in 18.1 innings.
He was drafted out of LSU in the 24th round of the 2016 MLB Draft and made his major league debut in August 2020.
Three more pitchers were assigned to minor league camp: LHP Taylor Guilbeau, RHP Keury Mella and RHP Carlos Navas.
Catcher Jose Herrera and outfielder Jake McCarthy were also sent to minor league camp.
The D-backs have 10 more spring training games before Opening Day on April 1 against the Padres in San Diego.
Arizona will have to cut 14 more spring training invitees to get to the Opening Day roster limit of 26 players.
