The Arizona Cardinals announced the release of practice squad kicker Brett Maher on Saturday.
Maher signed with the Cardinals on Christmas Day in 2020. He then signed a reserve/future contract on Jan. 5, according to Spotrac.
He last appeared in a regular season game in 2019, converting 20 of 30 field goals in 13 games with the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cardinals ran into injury problems at kicker last season when Zane Gonzalez went down with an injury, causing him to miss the last four games of the regular season.
Arizona brought in Maher and veteran Mike Nugent who won the job as Gonzalez’s replacement.
On Wednesday, the Cardinals announced the signing of kicker Matt Prater to a two-year contract to replace Gonzalez.
