ESPN MLB insider: D-backs are ‘starting to figure this out’

ESPN MLB insider Tim Kurkjian believed the Arizona
Diamondbacks were one of the better teams in the National
League before the season began, and was not ready to
concede that he (and most experts, really) were wrong.
So, it should come as no surprise that the team’s recent
surge has come as no surprise to him, something he talked
about with Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo Wednesday.
“I think they’re starting to figure this out,” Kurkjian
said. “And I just refuse to believe a team that was that
good last year, returned basically everyone, really got a
little bit better with [Trevor] Cahill and [Jason] Kubel,
that they would somehow just end up with 90 losses instead
of 90 wins.
“I didn’t buy that at any point.”
So even though the D-backs fell back below .500 with
Tuesday’s loss to the Rangers, Kurkjian feels like they
are a team that will be in the race the rest of the
season.
Provided, of course, not much else goes wrong.
