The Patrick Surtain hype train was already chugging along before the Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback went through measurements at his school’s pro day.

His workout Tuesday only added more coal to the Surtain train’s engine.

It might be bad news for the Arizona Cardinals, who at the moment have two cornerback slots up for grabs. Holding the No. 16 pick, Arizona might be lucky if Surtain is still available to draft on April 29.

Widely regarded as the top corner in the 2021 NFL Draft class, Surtain on many mock drafts is off the board by the No. 10 pick, when the secondary-needy Dallas Cowboys are set to select.

At Alabama’s pro day, Surtain measured in at 6-foot-2, 208 pounds with a 39-inch vertical and 131-inch broad jump.

The corner also got in 18 bench reps.

Those measurements rank in the top 16th percentile for cornerbacks who have gone through combine testing.

Surtain’s speed in the 40-yard dash came in unofficially between 4.42 seconds and 4.46 seconds, according to the manual watches on hand at the pro day.

Surtain’s work on Tuesday appears to have helped his stock, giving him an even stronger leg up on the second tier of corners in the class.

Virginia Tech’s Caleb Farley announced Monday he would not take part in his school’s pro day later this week.

Next up on the watch-list for the Cardinals regarding their cornerback vacancies is Jaycee Horn, who will participate in South Carolina’s pro day on Wednesday.
