A closer look: D-backs lose Hudson, fall to Braves

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won,
but
we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened
in a baseball game. So, we will give you a closer look,
providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from the
D-backs’ June 26 loss to Atlanta. Final score: Braves 8, Diamondbacks 1.

The Good:

Left-fielder Jason Kubel was a bright spot on a rough night offensively for the Diamondbacks. Kubel launched a third-inning home run, his 11th of the season and recorded an assist in the outfield.

The Bad:

The D-backs saw their four-game winning streak snapped in the opening game of a three-game set against the Braves.

D-backs starter Daniel Hudson got rocked in his 1 2/3 innings of work, allowing seven hits and five earned runs before exiting the game in the second inning due to injury.

Manager Kirk Gibson announced after the game that Hudson’s elbow is the problem, not tightness in the right forearm, which was previously reported. He is set to have an MRI in Phoenix on Wednesday.

He said it:

“I just couldn’t get extended on the pitch without some pain in my elbow,” Hudson said. “With my arm action I figure it kind of comes with the territory,” he said. “I’m pretty concerned. It’s your elbow.”

Noted:

Jason Kubel threw out Chipper Jones at third base in the bottom of the third to record his National League-leading 10th assist.

Coming up next:

The Diamondbacks face the Braves again Wednesday night at Turner Field in Atlanta with Trevor Cahill (6-5, 3.47) opposing Tommy Hanson (8-4, 3.54). Cahill is riding a four-game winning streak while Hanson has won three of his last four starts.
