D-backs’ Daniel Hudson has torn UCL

The Arizona Diamondbacks got some bad news Wednesday
about the injury status of starting right-handed pitcher
Daniel Hudson.

MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert reported on Doug and Wolf on
Arizona
Sports 620 Wednesday that Hudson suffered a torn ulnar
collateral ligament in his right elbow during Tuesday
night’s loss to the Atlanta Braves.

D-backs general manager Kevin Towers told Doug and Wolf
that Hudson suffered a 100 percent tear of the UCL and is
facing
a recovery time of between 12 and 18 months.

“More than likely, he’s going to miss most of next year as
well,” Towers said. “(Stephen) Strasburg did come back in
a little over a year, and hopefully that’s the case with
Daniel.”

While pitching to Atlanta catcher Brian McCann in
the
second inning of Tuesday’s game, Hudson threw a fastball
low and inside for a ball and almost immediately motioned
to the dugout to Arizona training personnel.

“I’ve always had soreness in there, but it had gotten to
the point where it was affecting how I was pitching out
there, so I figured I had to take myself out of the game,”
Hudson said after the game.

The 25-year-old Hudson went 3-2 in nine starts this season
while posting an ERA of 7.35.

The Diamondbacks placed Hudson on the 15-day disabled list
Wednesday and optioned reliever Jonathan Albaladejo to
Triple-A Reno.
