Sure, you could read the box score and know who won,
but
we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened
in a baseball game. So, we will give you a closer look,
providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from the
D-backs’ June 30 loss against Milwaukee. Final score: Brewers 10, Diamondbacks 2.

The Good:

The Diamondbacks bullpen combined for another solid outing
Saturday
night, after Wade Miley struggled early. Brad Ziegler, Craig Breslow
and
Bryan
Shaw combined for 4.1 innings, five hits and just one earned run.

The Bad:

Wade Miley struggled, throwing just 3.2 innings while giving up
eight
hits and
eight
earned runs, falling to 9-4 on the season. This was the first start
since June
1st
against San Diego in which Miley gave up more than one earned
run.
Eight runs is also the most runs Miley has given up in one game in
his major league career.

He said it:

“Just a game to forget,” manager Kirk Gibson said after the game.

Noted:

Arizona threatened early, but was unable to capitalize on potential
run-scoring situations.

The Diamondbacks managed runners on first and third in the first
inning with two outs, but Paul Goldschmidt flew out to right field to
end the
inning.

In the second, the Diamondbacks had runners on first and second
with
just one out, before Miley struck out bunting and Stephen Drew
popped
up.

Arizona didn’t manage another base hit until Stephen Drew led off
the 8th inning with a single off of Milwaukee reliever Tim Dillard.

Coming up:

The Diamondbacks and Brewers play the rubber game of the three-
game series Sunday morning at 11:10.
