D-backs’ Wade Miley among MLB All-Stars

Arizona Diamondbacks rookie pitcher Wade Miley has
been selected to the National League All-Star team.

“It’s awesome,” Miley said. “It’s just an honor to have your name
called with all the guys that will be there.”

Miley, the only Diamondback to make the All-Star roster, is 9-4
with
a 2.87 and 66 strikeouts on the season.

The young left hander started the season in the bullpen and has
made his way into the rotation with impressive numbers, becoming
a
viable candidate for NL Rookie of the Year.

A nice surprise for a man who says he had his car packed on the last
day of spring training, expecting to be sent back down to Triple-A
Reno.

Diamondbacks Aaron Hill and Paul Goldschmidt were also strong
candidates for an All-Star spot, but neither was selected.

“Hopefully we get Hill, he’s deserving of it,” Miley said. “He probably
deserves it more than I do, the way he has been playing the lat two
months.”

Hill recently became just the second player in Major League history
to hit for the cycle twice in a single season on June 29 against
the Milwaukee Brewers. He is batting .301 on the season with 11
home runs and 38 RBI.

Hill is among the final five candidates listed in a vote for the last NL
spot on the All-Star team, in which fans can vote for on mlb.com.

Goldschmidt struggled to start this season but has turned it on as
of
late, amassing a .293 average with 11 home runs and 35 RBI in
2012.

Here is the full list of NL and AL All-Stars.
