A closer look: D-backs lose on back-to-back errors

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won,
but
we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened
in a baseball game. So, we will give you a closer look,
providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from the
D-backs’ July 1 loss against Milwaukee. Final score: Brewers 2, Diamondbacks 1.

The Good:

Josh Collmenter was impressive in his second start since being
moved
to the bullpen at the end of April. Collmenter threw 6 innings,
giving
up three hits and one earned run. The pitching staff as a whole
gave
up just one more hit, but it wasn’t enough to get the series win.

The Bad:

The Diamondbacks threw the game away, literally. With one out in
the bottom of the ninth, Carlos Gomez attempted to steal second
base. Miguel Montero made a wild throw to second, which Gerardo
Parra picked up at threw to third, although Gomez would have been
safe even if the throw was on target.

Parra’s throw made one hop near third and went into the stands,
allowing Gomez to score the game winning run.

He said it:

“We walked a guy, made two errors on a play and it cost us the
game, it was a close game and well-played,” manager Kirk Gibson
said.

Noted:

Early in the game a medical mishap delayed play for about ten
minutes. The only information given was that someone in the
Brewers bullpen had to be carted off. Ryan Braun refused to talk
to media after the game, reportedly because of the incident.

Coming up:

The Diamondbacks head home to start off a seven-game home
stand
before the
All-Star break. Monday’s game starts at 6:40, against the Padres.
Clayton Richard (5-8, 3.77 ERA) is set to face off against Trevor
Cahill, (6-6, 3.67 ERA).
