Diamondbacks General Manager Kevin Towers has announced
infielder John McDonald has been placed on the 15-day
disabled list with a strained left oblique.
McDonald has played 33 games this season, batting .267
with four home runs and 12 RBI. He will be out until mid-
July.
In a corresponding move, the team has reinstated infielder
Geoff Blum from the 60-day disabled list. Blum suffered a
strained left oblique as well and has been on the DL since
April 18.
Blum is 1-for-11 on the season, batting .091 and earning
one RBI. His rehab games at Triple-A Reno fared better,
hitting .237 and landing 8 RBI, as well as a home run.
The All-Star break is coming at a perfect time for the
ailing D-backs, as the team’s 40-man roster currently
contains 39 players.
Pitcher Joe Saunders was placed on the 15-day DL June 17
with a strained left shoulder, and right-hand pitcher
Daniel Hudson’s season is over after suffering a torn UCL
on June 26.
Saunders is expected to be back in the lineup after the
All-Star break.
