ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

A closer look: D-backs get swept by SD

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all
know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a baseball
game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you with the
analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ July 3 loss against
San Diego. Final score: Padres 8,
Diamondbacks 6
.

The Good:

Willie Bloomquist went 3-for-5 on the night, boosting his average
over the .300 mark. Bloomquist also had his 13th RBI and his sixth
stolen base in the game.

The Diamondbacks had their first sellout since Opening Day, as
48,819 fans packed into Chase Field to watch some Independence
Day baseball.

Arizona has now homered in 15 straight games, the longest
single-season streak in club history and tied for the highest in the
Major Leagues this season.

The Bad:

The current 5-game losing streak matches the D-backs’ season
high.

Another error cost the Diamondbacks a chance to win late in the
game. Just like Monday, when a Trevor Cahill error at first put the
game out of reach for the Diamondbacks, a ninth inning error on
Bryan Shaw cost the Diamondbacks any shot at a comeback
Wednesday.

The Ugly:

The Diamondbacks have committed an error in a season-high eight
straight games.

Justin Upton went 0-for-5 from the plate in the game, and was
booed more and more as the night progressed. Upton also dropped
a would-be home run robbing catch over the fence in right field to
add to his tough evening.

He Said it:

“To be honest, I don’t care anything about what the fans think of
me. My teammates, my coaches, they know I come in here and bust
it every single day.” — Justin Upton following Wednesday’s loss.

Noted:

Jason Kubel has homered in back-to-back games and in three of
his last four. His 58 RBI equal his total from 2011 and are 58 RBI
tied for the ninth-most before the All-Star Break in club history.

Coming Up Next:

The Diamondbacks welcome the division-leading Dodgers to Chase
Field for a crucial four-game set to close out the first half of the
season.
