Arizona-ASU matchup produces weirdest inside-the-park home run

Apr 3, 2021, 3:37 PM

Throughout the heated rivalry of the Arizona State Sun Devils and Arizona Wildcats, something interesting is always bound to happen.

On Friday, another chapter was added to the Territorial Cup rivalry in a rather odd way.

In the top of the sixth inning in a matchup between the Sun Devils and Wildcats, Arizona’s Tanner O’Tremba hit a line drive down the third baseline that looked to be good for an extra-base hit.

However, ASU outfielder Hunter Jump misplaced his step and accidentally got his foot stuck on the fence as he was trying to reel in the baseball.

Almost immediately the redshirt junior threw his hands up in the air to signal to the umpires that his foot got stuck on the fence.

The play continued and O’Tremba successfully reached home plate on an inside-the-park home run to tie up the game at four a piece.

Shortly after, the officiating crew decided to stick with their initial decision that the ball was live.

O’Tremba’s home run proved to be crucial down the stretch as the Wildcats defeated the Sun Devils by a score of 7-6 on Friday night.
