A closer look: D-backs snap six-game losing streak

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all
know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a baseball
game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you with the
analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ July 6 win against the
Dodgers. Final score: Diamondbacks 5,
Dodgers 3
.

The Good:

The Diamondbacks tagged Clayton Kershaw for five earned runs,
the most he has ever given up against the team.

In the top of the seventh, when Jason Kubel gunned down Mark Ellis
at home from left field, Kubel recorded his 11th outfield assist of
the season. Kubel is now one assist shy of the D-backs single
season record, 12, held by Gerardo Parra last season and Eric
Byrnes in 2007.

Also, Kubel’s 59 RBI are one more than his total from the entire
2011 season.

The Diamondbacks snapped a six-game losing streak, their longest
of the season.

The win marked Arizona’s 19th come-from-behind win of the
season.

The Bad:

With an error in this game, the Snakes have now committed an
error in nine of their last 10 games.

The Ugly:

Bryan Shaw came in to pitch the seventh inning, but was never able
to record an out, giving up three hits and an earned run before
being pulled in favor of Mike Zagurski.

He Said it:

“[Upton] hit that ball and I looked up and he was flying. He might
even have been faster than me tonight,” said manager Kirk Gibson
regarding Justin Upton’s triple. Upton replied by saying, “I’ve always
been faster than Gibby.”

Coming Up Next:

The Diamondbacks have Trevor Cahill (6-7) taking the mound
against Chad Billingsley (4-9) as the D-backs look to further close
the gap in the NL West in their second to last game before the All-
Star Break.
