Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all
know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a baseball
game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you with the
analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ July 7 win against the
Dodgers. Final score: Diamondbacks 5,
Dodgers 3
.

The Good:

The D-backs notched their 20th comeback victory, winning their second
straight and moving to within five games of the first place Dodgers.
Trevor Cahill threw seven innings, evening his record at 7-7.
David Hernandez pitched his 8th straight scoreless outing against the
Dodgers.

JJ Putz recorded saves in back-to-back games for the first time since May
26-27 against the Brewers.

Offensively, Gerardo Parra drove in a pair of runs—his first multi-RBI
game at Chase Field since April 22 against the Braves, and Jason Kubel hit
his 15th home run.

The Bad:

Stephen Drew was the lone position player not to record a hit. He goes 0-
for-3, ending a three-game hitting streak.

Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley is 0-5 with a 6.21 ERA (20 ER in 29 IP) in
his last five starts.

He Said it:

“It means a lot from where we were a couple of days ago,” said Kubel who
has 11 home runs and 36 RBI in his last 28 games. “We beat another good
pitcher tonight, another good team. I think we felt good about last night.
We continued that today. Hopefully we do so tomorrow.”

Noted:

The D-backs announced a walk-up crowd of 5,534, the highest since
August 30, 2008 (6,347).

Coming up next:

The D-backs play their last game before the All-Star break with rookie
Trevor Bauer (0-1, 9.82) taking the mound in the series finale against the
Dodgers and one-time Diamondback Chris Capuano (9-3, 2.62). Bauer will
be making his third big league start.
