The Arizona Diamondbacks have called up right-handed pitcher Matt Peacock from the taxi squad on Tuesday to replace fellow reliever Joakim Soria, who will be sent to the 10-day injured list because of a left calf strain suffered Sunday.

The move of Soria is retroactive to Monday.

Peacock made one appearance in the spring, throwing 26 pitches over 2.0 innings with no hits, no walks and three strikeouts.

The 27-year-old has yet to make a big league appearance. During his 2019 minor league season — the minors were shuttered last year amid the pandemic — Peacock played for the Double-A Jackson Generals.

Peacock started 20 of 21 games that season, posting a 2.97 ERA and striking out 81 batters while issuing 43 walks.

Selected out of South Alabama in the 23rd round of the 2017 draft by the D-backs, Peacock was assigned to Triple-A Reno on March 14 of this year and then moved to the alternate training site on March 30, per the transaction wire.

He provides more long relief as Arizona (1-3) heads into its second series of the year, against the Colorado Rockies.

The Diamondbacks signed Soria this offseason as a veteran free agent to bolster a new-look bullpen that was reshuffled at the 2020 trade deadline. Soria was injured Sunday in a win over the San Diego Padres.

Arizona took an injury break after Soria made a play covering first base, and the pitcher stayed in the game, walking two batters before he was pulled by Lovullo.
