Report: Phoenix Suns coach Jeff Hornacek declines to meet with Iowa State

It looks like the rumors, short-lived as they were, can officially be put to bed.

Jeff Hornacek will not be leaving the Phoenix Suns to be the head coach at Iowa State, his alma mater.

According to a report by Chris Williams of CycloneFanatic.com, the Suns coach was someone Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard and school president Steven Leath wanted to meet with.

Hornacek’s agent declined, stating that his client had no interest in the job.

This matches up with what a separate source told CycloneFanatic.com last week, that Hornacek has no interest in the college game, specifically when it comes to the recruiting side of the job.

The story may have taken a bit of a turn, though, as Hornacek’s agent, Steve Kauffman, responded to Cyclone Fanatic to refute the report.

“We represent Jeff Hornacek. Rarely do I post but I will simply say this story is inaccurate. Jeff loves his alma mater and the facts are simply wrong here,” Kauffman wrote. “School knew they (Iowa State) had to request permission in a certain manner from the Phoenix Suns. I do not wish to allocate the blame
as to the parties at fault here. But it’s a shame.”

Hornacek is heading into his third season as the Suns’ coach. He has compiled an 87-77 record over the first two. There is currently one year left on his contract, with a team option for a fourth.
