Justin Upton’s agent sounds off on trade rumors

Justin Upton’s name has been in trade rumors for the
better
part of two weeks now, and his agent is sick of what he’s
hearing about his client.
Larry Reynolds, who represents the D-backs right-fielder,
told
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale the rumors
don’t
upset him as much as the anonymous comments that keep
showing
up in reports.
“Justin wants to stay, but I know trade rumors and trades
are
part of the business,” Reynolds told USA TODAY Sports.
“What
I don’t like are the comments and innuendos made about
Justin’s work ethic and character, especially from those
gutless people that don’t want to put their name by a
quote.“This young man is one of the hardest workers I’ve been
around
and more importantly, he’s a good person. If they want to
trade him, that’s their business, just knock off the
unfounded, negative rhetoric.”
It makes sense.
Reynolds, like Upton, knows trade rumors are part of the
business. However neither are likely pleased with some of
the
reports that have come out, whether they are accurate or
not.
Oddly enough, though, it would make little sense for D-
backs
brass to spread rumors about Upton’s work ethic or desire
to
win, as that would only serve to lower his trade value.
Which may be way D-backs GM Kevin Towers, in the report,
says he’s also upset with what’s being said about Upton.
“You should have enough issues with your own club without
talking about somebody else,” Towers said of personnel
from other teams attacking Upton.
