Mark Trumbo reacts to being traded by Arizona Diamondbacks

Mark Trumbo never wanted to be traded.

Wednesday, after the D-backs knocked off the Atlanta Braves 9-8, he was sent to the Seattle Mariners along with Vidal Nuño in exchange for four player package that includes catcher Welington Castillo, pitcher Dominic Leone and prospects Jack Reinheimer and Gabby Guerrero.

“It’s a bit of a shock,” Trumbo said. “You get comfortable somewhere and you develop a rapport and you have great teammates and if you’re removed from that situation, it’s tough.”

Acquired in a three-team trade before last season, Trumbo hit .243 with 23 home runs and 84 RBI, along with 128 strikeouts, in 134 games with the team. A power bat, he spent time manning both corner outfield spots as well as first base.

The 29-year-old said he was aware of the rumors saying the D-backs needing to make a move to clear up a logjam in the outfield, and while he tried to block it all out, he knew there was probably some truth to it all.

A member of the Los Angeles Angels before the D-backs acquired him, Trumbo said he hopes his familiarity with the AL West will help him when he gets to Seattle.

His time in Arizona was brief, and it will likely be remembered with mixed reviews. He was every bit the power hitter everyone expected, while also bringing mostly adequate defense and a lot of strikeouts.

“I’ve tried to do what I can and be the player that I am,” he said. “I guess I provide kind of what I do. I’m pretty consistent in what I do and I always want to get better. Some teams find that attractive, some people might not. I think I just pride myself in trying to be me and give a good effort each and every day and bring things that fans might not see every day as well behind the scenes a little bit.”
