J.J. Putz next D-back to be on the trade block?

Maybe every Diamondback on the roster is available
in trade?
While Justin Upton talk has dominated the rumor mill and
it is assumed
Stephen Drew and Ryan Roberts could be on their way out,
one area that has
not been mentioned much is the bullpen.
That is, until now.
According to FoxSports.com MLB writer Jon Morosi, the D-
backs may be
looking to shake things up at the back of the ‘pen.
Amid Justin Upton
talk, don’t be
surprised if #DBacks
move a reliever, too. J.J. Putz allowed a .157 BA and .389
OPS in last 15
games.— Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) July 18, 2012
Putz got off to a rocky start this season and has not had
nearly the
success he did last year, but still has 17 saves and a
1.17 WHIP on the
season to go along with a bloated 4.20 ERA.
Add in the fact that his contract is up after this season
and the D-backs
appear to have a viable replacement in David Hernandez
waiting in the
wings, and you may have the perfect recipe for a deal.
Besides, should the D-backs fall out of the playoff race
the last thing
they’ll need is a veteran closer.
But for now, this is likely nothing more than the typical
near-deadline
speculation.
For now.
