Sure, you could read the box score and know who won,
but we
all
know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a
baseball
game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you
with the
analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ July 22 win
over the Astros. Final
score: Diamondbacks 8, Astros 2.

The Good:

The Diamondbacks completed their fourth series sweep of
the season—all at home. Josh Collmenter threw his third
straight quality start, the first since returning to the
rotation.

Offensively, every D-backs position player had
at least one hit. Jason Kubel had three, including his
fourth home run in two games. Chris Young’s 3-run home
run highlighted a seven-run sixth inning, setting a new
season-high for runs scored in an inning.

The Bad:

In the three game series, the Astros pitching staff
allowed 33 runs on 40 hits.

He Said it:

“Not sure I can give you an answer,” manager Kirk Gibson
said of his team’s recent hot hitting. “We just went on a
little bit of a roll.”

Noted:

Aaron Hill, playing in his 1,000th career regular-season
game, extended his hitting streak with a single in the
sixth to 13 games, the longest active streak in baseball.

Coming up next:

The D-backs continue their 10-game homestand with game one
of a three-game series against Colorado on Monday. Ian
Kennedy (7-8, 4.33) makes his 20th start of the season
while Jonathan Sanchez (1-6, 7.76) makes his Rockies debut
after being aquired from Kansas City.
