The Phoenix Mercury only had one selection in the 2021 WNBA Draft on Thursday night.

That pick was a third-rounder (No. 32 overall) and was used to take center Ciera Johnson out of Texas A&M.

“All I can do is thank God!! So excited for this opportunity!” she tweeted following her selection.

After spending her freshman year at Louisville (2016-17), the 6-foot-4 Johnson finished out her college career as an Aggie.

The center would finish her Texas A&M career with the third-most double-doubles (22) and sixth-best career field goal percentage (53%) in program history.

Johnson averaged 10.5 points and 6.5 rebounds and played in all 92 games in her three years at College Station, including a senior season that saw her grab 7.6 boards per contest and shoot 54.4% from the field.

“Ciera had a really strong year during her senior season and we have heard so many great things about her leadership,” Mercury head coach Sandy Brondello said in a press release. “We are excited to get her into camp to compete against the other players we have on our roster.”

The Mercury’s roster is now at 14 players following the draft as Phoenix tries to go for a league-record tying fourth WNBA title in 2021.
