Larry Fitzgerald no stranger to quarterback competitions

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A training camp without a quarterback
battle would seem unusual for Larry Fitzgerald.

The veteran wide receiver is entering his ninth season in
the NFL, and not many have begun without a question at the
quarterback position.

“Yeah, I’ve been through a couple,” he said. “It always
makes for fun.”

There was Shaun King/Josh McCown/John Navarre when
Fitzgerald first put on the Cardinals uniform. Matt
Leinart and Kurt Warner battled for a couple of seasons
beginning in 2006. And then when Warner retired, Derek
Anderson joined the fun.

Now, it’s Kevin Kolb and John Skelton.

“I think I was asked more when Kurt (Warner) and Matt
(Leinart) were competing,” Fitzgerald said when asked if
he’s grown tired of the quarterback talk. “I think I got
it more often then so this is kind of like child’s play
almost.”

Fitzgerald let out a smile with that last comment.

And if you think he’s concerned about having enough time
to develop chemistry with whomever is the starter, he’s
not.

“We take enough reps with both guys,” Fitzgerald said.
“Every other series we’re going with both guys and then
we’ve been together. It’s not like we don’t know the
guys.

“All the guys are working hard,” he continued. “You don’t
pull for any one guy because you have personal
relationships with everybody and you want to see that
everybody do good. Obviously, there’s only one
quarterback position and once that person is announced
we’re going to stand behind him.”
