Report: Diamondbacks place Joe Saunders on waivers

Joe Saunders’ run with the Arizona Diamondbacks may be coming to an end.
According to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the team has put the lefty on trade waivers.
He will be on waivers until 1 p.m. ET Thursday, and could be claimed by a team in need of starting pitching — or a team seeking to block another contender from adding him. If Saunders clears waivers, the Diamondbacks can trade him to any club.
Saunders, who is 6-10 with a 4.22 ERA this season, is set to become a free agent and the D-backs may be hoping to get something for him rather than lose the veteran for nothing.
The 31-year-old was acquired by Arizona in the Dan Haren trade of 2010, and in a small twist of irony could be on the block to make room for Tyler Skaggs, who was also part of that trade.
