Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a baseball game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ August 22 win over the Marlins. Final score: Diamondbacks 3, Marlins 2

The Good:

The Diamondbacks snapped a two game losing skid with a 3-2 win over the Marlins Wednesday afternoon. Rookie Tyler Skaggs became the seventh D-backs starting pitcher to win their Major League debut.

As for the offense, Aaron Hill is hitting .522 with four home runs and eight RBI in his last six games, while Gerardo Parra has hit safely in his last seven starts, going 9-for-27.

The Bad:

Right fielder Justin Upton did not start Game 1 of the doubleheader and is not in the starting lineup for game two with a hamstring issue. His MRI Wednesday morning showed no damage or injury and he is available off the bench.

Noted:

The bullpen continues to get the job done for the D-backs. Brad Ziegler has nine straight scoreless appearances over eight innings of work and has held opponents scoreless in 19 of his last 20 games. David Hernandez recorded a strikeout in a career-high 15 straight games, and J.J. Putz converted his 16th straight save opportunity.

He Said It:

Tyler Skaggs on the ovation the crowd gave him when he left the game in the 7th inning.

“I mean it was phenomenal. It was the greatest feeling I’ve ever had in my whole life. So it’s been good.”

Up Next:

Game 2 of this doubleheader at Chase Field gets underway at 6:40 p.m. It will be Wade Miley for the D-backs vs. Wade LeBlanc for the Marlins.
