Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Kole Calhoun underwent surgery for a left hamstring injury on Friday morning, manager Torey Lovullo said before the game against the Colorado Rockies.

He had an excision of a damaged left semitendinosus tendon, Lovullo said. That is in the lower part of his hamstring.

Calhoun suffered the injury when sliding into third base on a steal attempt on Tuesday against the San Diego Padres.

He could miss six to eight weeks, general manager Mike Hazen told MLB.com reporter Steve Gilbert.

Over 12 appearances this season, Calhoun has hit .289 with two home runs and five RBIs.

Calhoun missed the start of the season due to a torn meniscus in his right leg. He said Tuesday that he has probably been putting more strain on his left leg by taking it a little easier on his right knee.

The rightfielder joins an extensive list of D-backs injuries. Lovullo gave updates on some of the injured players on Friday:

D-backs injury notes

Outfielder Ketel Marte, who suffered a right hamstring injury on April 7, was with the Diamondbacks on Friday. He went through a running progression of linear movement with a small arch and small curves. He was not running 100%.

Outfielder Tim Locastro (pinky finger) and first baseman Christian Walker (oblique) could appear in game action as early as this weekend, Lovullo said.
