Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a baseball game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ August 31 win against the Dodgers. Final score: Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 3.
The Good:
Jason Kubel hit a clutch solo home run in the top of the 11th inning off reliever Matt Guerrier (0-1), which proved to be the game-winner for the D-backs Friday night.
The Bad:
The D-backs blew the three-run lead they held over the Dodgers. Andre Ethier capped the rally with an RBI single in the sixth inning.
He Said It:
“Even better, August is over,” Jason Kubel said. “For a while I was chasing everything and I stopped doing that. Hopefully this one can give me a little more confidence going forward.”
Noted:
Kubel broke out of a 1-for-24 slump with his 11th inning longball. He is now just one homer away from matching his career-high of 28.
The Diamondbacks brought back infielder Cody Ransom, after claiming him off waivers from Milwaukee before the game.
Up Next:
The D-backs and Dodgers will play game three of their four-game series Saturday night. Rookie Tyler Skaggs (1-1, 2.92) will get the ball for Arizona. He will be opposed by veteran Josh Beckett (5-12, 5.21).
